Cut Down Your Electric Bill

 

Tip 1 – Switch to CFLs or LEDs

The most simple and fastest thing that you can do to start reducing your electric expenses is to switch to some CFL or LED light bulbs. CFL and LED light bulbs can last a lot longer than conventional light bulbs and they will also cost you less electricity.

Even if they do cost a little more to get, they will save you a ton in the long run.  According to some experts, CFLs will spend around $10 for every 10000 hours, while common light bulbs, will spend around $48 for the same amount of time.

 

Tip 2 – Install Smarter Switches

If you have been into some electronic stores in the past couple of years, you may probably have seen an Energy Star logo in some appliances and these are the machines that you should be purchasing.

This equipment has been designed to help families save money on electricity and if you have several of them in your home, you can save a ton every single month.  These types of appliances, do not require as much energy as appliances from the past and this means that you will get the same efficiency, at a much lower cost.

 

Tip 4 – Remember to service your air conditioner

Many of us, sometimes forget about the importance of servicing certain appliances and equipment. By simply servicing your air conditioner, you can save up to $60 every year and this is why you must remember to do so in your home.

Most electric bills, are filled with heating or cooling expenses, which is why keeping your air conditioner, in an optimum state, will help you to save some money.  Not only will you be lowering your electric bill every month, but you will also be protecting your air conditioner and this means that it will last you a lot longer.

Tip 6 – Make Sure Your Dryer’s Lint Is Clean

It really does not matter whether your furnace is electric or gas, as keeping it tuned, will help you to save some dollars.

Tip 10 – Check your fridge

As mentioned above, there are now plenty of electricity companies to choose from and these will vary from city to city. Checking several of your local electric suppliers, will allow you to compare their plans and thus choose the one that best fits your needs.

Tip 12 – Check your stove

If you own an electric stove or grill, you will also need to check these regularly, as not having them working correctly, can increase your electric bill by a lot. Turning off your stove, before your food reaches its final point, is also a good way to save some power.

If you need to use water for certain recipes, using a little less, will help to boil food quicker and thus save you some money on your electricity bill.  Using the right saucepans, frying pans and cooking equipment, will also help you to save some money on your electric stove.

Today, it is much easier to install some solar or wind power generators in our homes. The prices of solar panels and wind generators, has dropped dramatically and this means that more people now have access to these technologies.

If you have desktop computers in your home and you leave them on for many hours every day, optimizing its power settings, can help you to save some money on electricity every month.

Whether you own a Mac, a Windows or a Linux PC, there are many settings that you can change, in order to save some power every day.  Enabling settings like sleep, hybrid sleep and hibernation, can save a lot of power on your desktop PCs and it does not take much time for you to do so.

Turning your computers off, when you are not using them, is also a smart thing to do, if you do not want to pay a lot of money to your electric supplier every month.

 

Tip 15 – Keep track of your electric bills

Most of us do not save or keep our electric bills for a long time, which is a huge mistake, as keeping a record of these bills, will help you to save money in the long run. If you keep your electric bills, you will be able to see how much you spend and reduce your power expenses.
